Nirvana was playing a show near Dallas in October of 1991—about a month after the release of their epic grunge album Nevermind—when a stage dive by Kurt Cobain went wrong.
Cobain, drummer Dave Grohl and bassist Krist Novoselic were in the middle of a rendition of “Love Buzz” when the frontman leaped into the crowd. As he was returned to the stage, one of the security guards began to shove him, and Cobain thwacked him on the head with his heavy guitar. The guard then shoved Cobain to the ground, prompting the band to discontinue playing.
If you watch closely, Grohl leaps up from his drumset and into the fracas at about the speed of light. All three were probably stoned out of their minds and probably don’t remember that night, but the memory is forever preserved on YouTube.
