Slowly but surely, Katy Perry has crept into position to break one of MJ’s most beloved records: 5 straight number one singles on the Billboard charts… from the same album.
In 1987, Michael hit the top with “I Just Can’t Stop Loving You”, “Bad”, “The Way You Make Me Feel”, “Man In the Mirror” and “Dirty Diana”. So far, Perry has struck gold with “California Girls”, “Teenage Dream”, “Firework”, and “E.T.”. Her latest single, “Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.)” is expected to hit No. 1 on the next chart, meaning she will tie the late, great pop star.
Word from the Perry camp is that she will go for six in a row, with “Peacock” being named as a potential candidate. Will she be able to do it? Who knows. For now, you can judge the prospective record-breaking single yourself.
Thanks to NME for the report.
