The round of 32 is over in “The Rap Bracket,” and there were a couple major upsets.
In the East region, No. 7 seed Nas took down No. 2 seed Drake. While voters were probably more focused on Nas’ career accomplishments and not on current relevance, the upset was not as egregious as No. 6 Ice Cube taking down No. 3 Macklemore in the West bracket. No. 5 Snoop Dogg beat out No. 4 Kendrick Lamar in the West as well, creating an old school theme in that region’s Final Four.
As we enter the Sweet 16, it’s important to remember that you should vote based on what the rappers are CURRENTLY doing. The champion is the current “king of hip-hop,” not the best 40+ year old who hasn’t made a hit in at least 10 years. If this were an all-time bracket, Nas would be a No. 3 seed and Drake probably wouldn’t even be in the field.
The voting lasts until Friday, March 30, so get out there and have some fun!
Tune in March 30 at noon for results and the Elite 8 bracket!
