2012 Rap Bracket: Elite Eight

Click for a larger image of “The Rap Bracket”

We’re about halfway through the 2012 Rap Bracket, and 24 hip-hop stars have already been eliminated. Only eight remain: T.I. and B.o.B. from the South, The Game and Tyler, the Creator from the West, Jay-Z and Nas from the East, and Eminem and Kanye West in the Midwest.

Upsets abounded in the last round. No. 4 seed T.I. took down heavyweight No. 1 Lil Wayne, while No. 7 Nas defeated No. 6 Wale in the battle of the underdogs in the East. Old-school favorites Snoop Dogg and Ice Cube both went down in the West, giving us what should be an action-packed quarterfinal round.

Perhaps the most intriguing matchup is Eminem vs. Kanye in the Midwest. They are perhaps the top two overall seeds in the tournament, but regional similarity brought them together in the same quarterfinal bracket. Who will prevail? “Not Afraid” or “P.O.W.E.R.”? Only time will tell.

Cast your votes before April 6 at noon, and tune in next week to see who makes the Final Four!

i voted for Kanye over Eminem, assuming “Em is gonna slaughter him with votes”, but i was really surprised Kanye’s already in the lead!!

    • I know, the West is brutal, I didn’t realize how far the quality has fallen in the last decade until I was putting together the seeding…

I actually put in a vote for Kanye based on his recent work, I feel like Eminem has fallen off quite a bit since the mid-2000s, but people still love his stuff.

Thanks for the vote and the comment! Hope all is well.
